I have a Deviantart account and I have never cleaned out my notes folder. I had like three-hundred notes in there. Last night I decided to clean it out and I found a series of notes that passed between Sean Hartter and myself about various and sundry things. Old friends might be a bit of an overstatement as we never met in real life but we were friends on DA and had a mutual respect for each others’ art.
You might notice I’m using the past tense. We sadly lost Mr. Hartter a few months ago and I’m feeling that loss acutely as I write this. Hartter left behind good feelings, great art and some talented offspring. He always had a kind word for me. And his son, Griffin is keeping that torch alive, both artistically and philosophically.
I don’t think enough people are familiar with the man’s work so I’ve gathered a few of my favorite examples of his art for everyone to check out. His DA page still exists and you should do yourself a favor and have a browse: http://hartter.deviantart.com/ and after you do, let Griffin know that his dad’s work is still bringing joy and kick-assery to the planet.
I’m also including the piece I drew for Sean for his Nobody the Idiot book. I don’t know if the book was ever completed but I’m casting my vote for it right now. I’d love to see it happen because Sean Hartter was not just a great artist but a great guy, and too often the two don’t go hand in hand. Enjoy.
