Posted in Author Announcements and Appearances. on April 9, 2014 by beauschemery

Hello friends,

I’ve got a few appearances lined up and I thought I’d let you know, in case you want to come see me. I’ll have original artwork and copies of all my books. I may also have some super limited, original comics as well.

Rainbow Con
Tampa, Fl.
April 17 to 20.
This is the first year for this con but it really sounds like it’s going to be a great time.

Free Comic Book Day
America’s Most Wanted Collectibles
S. Williamsport, Pa.
May 3.
AMWC has moved to a new, spacious location in South Williamsport and this FCBD promises to be even bigger than last year’s, and last year’s was freaking awesome! Lots of other creators will be in attendance as well.

Yaoi Con
San Francisco, Ca.
September 12 to 14.
(Unconfirmed)
Yaoi Con is back in San Fran and I’m hoping to be in attendance but this one isn’t locked in yet.

Wildcat Comic Con
Williamsport, Pa.
September 27.
This will be my first time at this show but I hear it’s a great time and I’m really looking forward to it.

I hope I’ll see you at one of these fun events.

What’s up, kids? If you’re in the Williamsport Area tonight, come down to the Harvest Gallery/Artisan Co-op. I’ll be there with original artwork, prints, books and masks to celebrate the first Friday in my favorite month, OCTOBER! Harvest is on 4th Street across from the Salvation Army store. I hope to see you there!

All right, Breaking Bad, I guess you’re pretty good after all..

That title might be a little misleading. It sort of implies that I didn’t think Breaking Bad would be good at all. I totally did. I love Bryan Cranston. But one of the casualties of spending all one’s money on wine and author conventions is not having cable TV. I watch all my shows on Netflix or Hulu streamed through my Xbox.

So I started watching Breaking Bad a few months ago and I couldn’t get into it. Then a month or two after that I tried again. But it didn’t impress me. It felt like it was trying to be two shows: Walt the Cancer Victim Show and Walt the Budding Criminal Show.

Well this last attempt mere days ago yielded better results and since beginning over with Season 1, Episode 1 last Friday, I am now well into the fifth season. It took me one and half seasons to really get into it. Season Two got me hooked. Season Three was gold and Season 4 was like getting kicked in the nuts with gold! So yeah, I won’t ruin anything for anyone but it becomes masterful and watching Walt’s transformation and the transformation of the people and lives around him is good television. The writing is top notch and even the characters I want to see die are written really well.

At one point-when Walt was sporting his nose bandage- it occurred to me that Walt could easily be a tough-as-nails, constantly-beaten-but-never-down, Frank Miller-type character. Below you will find what was going to be a quick sketch and turned into a full piece of finished art, featuring Mr. White drawn in a Frank Miller style. Enjoy. And if you get a chance, pop over to my newly opened Etsy shop. Walt will be there.

“Spring” Cleaning and Missing Old Friends.

Posted in Art Stuff. with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on September 10, 2013 by beauschemery

I have a Deviantart account and I have never cleaned out my notes folder. I had like three-hundred notes in there. Last night I decided to clean it out and I found a series of notes that passed between Sean Hartter and myself about various and sundry things. Old friends might be a bit of an overstatement as we never met in real life but we were friends on DA and had a mutual respect for each others’ art.

You might notice I’m using the past tense. We sadly lost Mr. Hartter a few months ago and I’m feeling that loss acutely as I write this. Hartter left behind good feelings, great art and some talented offspring. He always had a kind word for me. And his son, Griffin is keeping that torch alive, both artistically and philosophically.

I don’t think enough people are familiar with the man’s work so I’ve gathered a few of my favorite examples of his art for everyone to check out. His DA page still exists and you should do yourself a favor and have a browse: http://hartter.deviantart.com/ and after you do, let Griffin know that his dad’s work is still bringing joy and kick-assery to the planet.

I’m also including the piece I drew for Sean for his Nobody the Idiot book. I don’t know if the book was ever completed but I’m casting my vote for it right now. I’d love to see it happen because Sean Hartter was not just a great artist but a great guy, and too often the two don’t go hand in hand. Enjoy.

Some of Sean's best work was his Alternate Universe movie posters. Another flick I'd pay money to see.

This is just brilliant and their season is at hand.

The vibrant colors juxtaposed with Death in this really struck me as awesome. Plus it reminds me a little of Mike Mignola.

The Last Blade- Cover Revealed and more…

The Last Blade- Cover Revealed and more...

Here it is- the final image for the cover of The Last Blade: The Verses of Vrelenden Book Two. That’s our hero, Ren with his mage, Dish.

Here’s the blurb for the book:
Ren Mallorian is finally a hero. He helped Celestrian, the lost unicorn, complete his quest, and he defeated the kingdom’s worst enemy, Grimthorn. Now Ren lives in the capital city doing odd quests for the king and his nobles—but he misses Celestrian.

One day the king summons Ren and the Prince of Toads, a noble who has taken the role of irreverent sidekick, and tasks them with assembling a team to combat an uprising in the Zombie Kingdom. On their journey across Vrelenden, they gather allies: Discimus, an accomplished wizard and a smug bastard (it’s a good thing he’s pretty). Jaron A-Dale, the captain of a city guard and an accomplished knight. Acorn, a tiny and mysterious elf girl. And an unexpected and extremely dangerous traveling companion.

But is there more to the Zombie threat and its newly raised army of the undead than meets the eye? Ren is having a tough time keeping his head straight, and with Ren and Dish distracted—both by their romance of convenience and the absence of the men they love—this may prove Ren’s most dangerous quest yet.

And you can pre-order it here:

I will also be attending Book Expo America in NY this year with my publisher, Harmony Ink Press. If you are going this great event stop by and say hi!
